Vallejo Garden Tour 2011

I just bought two tickets to the Vallejo Garden Tour 2011 which is coming up on Sunday. This year’s theme is “A Community of Gardens“. The tour features eight local gardens (private homes) and two community gardens. The Loma Vista Farm and the Vallejo Community Garden at Mare Island.

I haven’t received the progrm and map yet, so I’m not sure exactly where the home garden are yet. Hopefully, they will be as lush and inspiring as the previous years that I’ve gone. I got my camera ready and I’m sure I’ll take tons of photos…

Mongero Garden Plant Sale…

About two weeks ago, my Mom and Brother came home and were so excited to tell me about a house near downtown Vallejo that was having a plant sale. “A house” I wondered… I thought it was something like a garage sale with plants, but as they told me more and more about the various plants they seen, I because so curious… After eating lunch, I took my camera and headed there.

This house is owned by Tony Mongero, a local landscaper located on 225 El Dorado Street in Vallejo, California.

He loves to grow plants… and it shows. I was so surprised at all the wonderful plants, many which are not sold at the big chain home improvement stores. I never seens some of the plants except in TV shows and online.

Tony told me that he has plants sales about once a month and puts up sign around the area (which is how my Brother discovered the place). He also says that people are free to come in anytime he is in the garden and his gate is open. You can also call ahead of time and ask if you can come over. So if you go, tell him you heard of his garden through me :)

Here’s his flyer with more information and contact details.

Vallejo’s First Dog Park!!!

This has been a long week, and I have not been keeping up with my plants, photos, LiveJournal and sleep. (I will this weekend)

I’ve been thinking a lot about the pit bull attack on Wednesday and have this weird feeling. I don’t know if it’s like a feeling of feeling violated… I can’t quite put it in words. I no longer feel safe walking Calli around the neighborhood. I know that was probably a freak thing that happened, but I just can’t go out there with Calli, even thought I know she’s been enjoying our time together when I take her for a dog walk after work.

Yesterday, I took her out… but we just staying within our property, going back and fort between the front yard and back. It kinda felt silly, but that’s just how it’s got to be for now.

This evening, I had an idea to search for dog parks around the area, because I don’t think Vallejo has one. I was so surprised to see the results I found on Google.

Vallejo is opening it’s first dog park next week!!!!!!!

I can’t tell you how great this feels.
