Alphabits Terrariums

Alphabits Terrariums

One of my earliest gardening memories was getting one of these terrariums in my Alpha-bits cereal. I had the yellow one on the right. Our neighbor had the middle one. I asked her if I can have it, but she wanted to keep hers.

Books + Videos

Our city library was renovating, so I haven’t been able to check stuff out. I check it tonight and they were open… so, yeay, I got some books:

– How Plants Get Their Names by L.H.Bailey
– Japanese Gardens in a Weekend by Robert Ketchell
– Creating Water Gardens by Ortho Books
– The Complete Book of Cacti & Succulents by Terry Hewitt
– Western Garden Annual 1994 Edition by the Sunset Editors

I also noticed that they had videos and DVDs, so I checked them out and to my surprise, there were garden videos (under 635). I was doublely excited when I found tapes of a series that I’ve been looking for:

– Gardening Naturally – Getting Started
– Gardening Naturally – Preparing for Spring

Both with Barbara Damrosch and Elliot Coleman. I recorded these way back when it aired on PBS (I think). Well, a coworker borrow it and lost it!!! I’ve been hoping I run into it on TV, but I’ve never seen it since… ’til now.

Flashback of a Biology Project…

I was taking a break outside and saw this leaf on the ground, that caused me to have a flashback. I was reminded of a biology project I did in high school where our assignment was to collect leaves, flatten them in a book, then paste it into paper and identify the plant.

It’s funny because I totally have forgotten about this biology project, since it was way back in 1985. I wonder if I still have it somewhere… hmm?

Welcome to my Gardening Journal

Hello and welcome to my gardening journal.

I created this journal to keep a personal log of my little garden and to share photos and experiences with other gardeners. I also find myself reading posts from communities and other gardeners on a daily basis.

I’ve been vegetable gardening in my parents back yard since I was in high school (way back in 1985), but once I moved out and went to college, I was limited to only a few container plants, since I primarily lived in apartments. When my father passed away a few years ago, I decided to move back home to keep my mom company and so I can help take care of things at home.

I started vegetable gardening again (yeay!) late last year and was surprised with our harvest even though I had a very late start… This year will be my first “full” growing season in over 17 years!!!… I’m really excited to get back to growing vegetables in a real garden bed.

Feel free to comment to my posts and/or send me an email… Enjoy :)

Welcome

This is my first post to this journal.
