Calli…

Our dog Calli passed away today.

Calli

This is a photo of her resting in the garden, which was one of her favorite pastimes. She didn’t learn many tricks, except “shaking hands”; she was a pro at that. Calli was such a gentle dog and a big sweetheart.

We actually don’t remember exactly how old she was, but she had a litter in 1996 and she was probably about 1 or 2 at that time, so our best guess is that she was 14 or 15…

Calli, rest in peace… We will miss you!

Shirts + Nanay’s Online Banking

Hi LiveJournal… Long time no see… Dang, I haven’t posted forever…

Couple of items for today…

I been looking for shirts online, cuz many of mine are getting tighter… I think I may be getting a bit bigger in my old age. Dang it!

I’ve been eyeing some graphic tees on threadless.com but never ordered… So I placed an initial order of two $5 shirts, one medium and one large, to check out their sizes and quality. I’ll get more later.

This evening, I signed my Mom up for online banking… She’s 77 years old and doesn’t use computer (although she loves playing with my iPhone), but I’ll be the “banker” and help her along. In order to create an onine account with her bank, I had to create an email for her, so I set one up on Gmail. Wow! My Mom’s first email account!!! :)

The main reason for setting up online banking for her was so she can do bill pay. She ‘s been asking me about it, because her bills say “pay online”… and she’s tired of writing checks and buyings stamps to mail the payments…

Now I have to try to get her to stop using checks in the store and just use her ATM or credit card… so she can collect reward points too… Baby steps…

Good night :)

It’s Hot…

Yesterday, I spent the day in San Francisco, celebrating my friend Wincy’s Birthday. We went to the West Portal district and had a Mexican lunch… Yumm!… Afterwards, we walked around the shops. I happened to see a hardware store that was selling a Coleus… so, knowing me I had to get it. Hello Coleus ‘Red Ruffles’.

Today, it was really warm, reaching the mid 90s (°F). Once it cooled down a bit, I fertilized with a water soluble fertilizer, spray almost all my plants. That was pretty much the extent of my gardening.

I did notice that the tomatoes are finally fruiting… and I saw my first tomato!!! YEAY!!! It’s a Great White Tomato that is about half an inch wide. The Cucumbers are also starting to flower. Below is the Sikkim Cucumber blossom.

While in the garden, I snacked on some of our yummy Italian Plum, which I think is my favorite fruit in the garden.

Message Bean Emerges

Oh yeah, one of the Message Bean has emerged. The other one rotted :(

Naic Town Fiesta / San Leandro Marina

Last weekend we attended an annual event called “Naic Town Fiesta” in San Leandro Marina where people from my Mom’s home town Naic, Cavite, Philippines get together and have a big potluck and celebrate their Patron Saint.

I took this opportunity to explore the San Leandro Marina and see what plants it had growing wild.

There are a lot of flowers that the people from Naic bring to celebrate their Patron Saint. Here are a few of them:

Flower Buds   Pink Edged Yellow Roses

Anyone know what the purple flower buds above are?
I totally can’t remember what those are called.

Peach Roses   Yellow Mums

The two Roses above are the cuttings I took from the last entry.

Avocado + Oxalis

It’s been a tiring two days, with me and my Mom going back and forth between home and the South Bay for my sister-in-law’s father’s funeral.

We got to visit my Aunt’s and Uncle’s second house; the one with three Avocado trees. I was excited to actually see a real life Avocado tree.

My Aunt also gave me some Oxalis weeds that I’ve been wanting for a while. They looks like this. I know they can spread rapidly, but I’m going to plant these in a pot to keep it at bay. We have some other types of Oxalis weeds, but the are not at all as rampant as I’ve heard people say they are. I just think these Yellow Oxalis are so pretty.
