My friend Darwin and I bought this Orchid this weekend for under $20. I spilt it into two and kept half for myself.
I’m not sure what cultivar it is. Anyone know?
The Amaryllis seedpod that I’ve been watching has started to pop open, so I collected the seeds, which I will plant as lblanchard did.
Speaking of seeds… I found this seed in a parking lot near my work. At first I thought it was just a coffee bean, but it had a skin (similar to a peanut skin) that came off. I’m not really sure what it is, but I planted it to see if it grows.
I previously wrote an entry asking for this cactus’ name, and I got a response that it was ‘Opuntia Diademanta’.
Today, a fellow Flickr user told me it is ‘Tephrocactus articulatus var. papyracanthus’ or Paper Spine Cactus. ( DG PlantFile )
What ever it is, i love it!
I had some trouble with my camera today. A couple of my photo got corrupted and when I deleted them and took more photos, some would get corrupted. Luckily, I take multiple shot of each subject, so I didn’t loss too much.
I figured that there was some bad areas on the memory card, so I downloaded all the photos that could be downloaded and reformatted the card.
I took several hundred test photos and encountered more corruption, which confirmed that there are bad areas on the memory card.
I then remember a trick that I use to do back in the Atari days when I would get bad sectors on floppy disks.

Some of the Kangkong (Water Spinach) ( photos from 3 days ago ) that I placed in water have already started to sprout some roots.
I’m looking online to see how to plant them, since they are aquatic plants. I read somewhere that they can be planted in soil, but they are tougher and stouter than if they were floating in water. We don’t have a pond and I don’t really want to leave them in a body of water, because of the fear of mosquitoes. Maybe I can plant them in gravel like Lucky Bamboo or maybe in a hole-less pot with bog soil. Hmmm?
I also noticed that something chewed on one of my baby Kongs (the velvety red one) ( photo from 4 days ago ) and knocked it down. I think it’s time for Sluggo. I cut the fallen tips and rooted it.
The same thing happened to a branch of my Coleus ‘Kiwi Fern‘ a few days ago. Surprisingly, the cutting already has root, so I potted it up in soil.
I also spy the smallest baby Lemon Cucumber… Yeay!
